Born and raised west of Philadelphia, PA, Mays joined military service as a teenager, serving during Vietnam and building a twenty-year career before retiring. He is a University of Nebraska at Omaha graduate with a bachelor’s degree that propelled him into a second career as a civil servant in the U.S. government.

Mays is best known for his work in the Neil Hammer series. He is honored to be listed in the Illinois Authors Wiki, an Illinois Center for the Book project. The project is a comprehensive resource for information on authors, photographers, and illustrators who have published books and have lived in Illinois or written about Illinois.
